The insanely ridiculous thing is that, nearly always, things like this did not stop you from understanding what was being said, they only niggled some old memory of a teacher and a ruler.

Oh they stop me. I read really literally, and hit a wall when a sentence doesn't compute. Then it turns out there's a typo or a missing comma and ahhh it all makes sense. It doesn't happen verbally. I have no idea why only the written interpreter gets stuck.

Well, like in that sentence my brain stopped on the tilde and tried to interpret:

Is it an alternative dash? Or like italics? Oh wait is that another later? So maybe it is alternative dash after all. But, oh, "means you've probably coming from" wouldn't make sense. Huh, no, no idea.

But then I mentally take out the tilde(s?) and start over and it makes sense until I get to "rulers" which I initially interpreted as royalty. Then when that didn't sense, realized ohhhhhh like teachers smacking knuckles with rulers. The blockers slow down reading, but don't necessarily make it impossible. Hearing is so much easier.
