so i'm looking to provide gcc (as well as clang and ld) as a binary tool in pants, like watchman or buildozer, because unlike e.g. jvm tools c/c++ compilers have 300 different configurations and levels of support for different language features, and some extremely bare-bones linux hosts incredibly do not have a c compiler installed. clang alone doesn't work completely because it uses some libraries from gcc to produce linux executables. this would be fine, but i'm finding it difficult to get the gcc package under 300MB gzipped (bz2 as well), and github won't accept that (since we currently check in the zipped packages into a subdirectory of pantsbuild/binaries).
