was able to get down to one remaining compilation issue before parking that - largely related to symbols/constructs in python3 that don’t exist in 2.x (and having limited knowledge of the cpython C API equivalents). likely could push it over the finish line with another day or two - or if anyone is interested in running with or pairing up on that.
