also, i think it would be useful to consider the question "what language/API can we build on top of the low-level-ish v2 engine API to make it simpler/more natural to use" in addition to "how do we make the v2 engine api simpler/more natural to use". this question could be tied in with "how do we conceptually merge v1 tasks and v2 execution" as well
