playing around with BinaryUtil and especially the new BinaryTool has made me want to play with implementing downloading to a snapshot in v2 again -- i started thinking about it because BinaryTool already has a natural method to fetch a binary which accepts a context, so we wouldn't have to make any silly incongruous separate methods to do that, and because the tasks don't need to know about it so it seems like it could be done relatively painlessly. also, because most subsystems don't use BinaryTool yet, that could be one way we start converting things to v2 (subsystems use BinaryTool which already has the pipeline in place to download things, this could even be done outside of tasks, for example). all very indefinite thoughts, but i'm gonna try to play around with that now and make it more definite.
