i'm not making it an issue yet because it's a relaxing sunday morning and i'm not sure if this just reproes for me (since travis is clearly passing) but will dump this into one as necessary. it's not blocking the work on fatal error logging but (1) i have a branch with changes for that that works, but (2) i can't test it on this laptop literally because the original deadlock so i was thinking it'd be useful if i can make any part of this deadlock more clear
