In the first place, do you think it was a mistake to have `fingerprint` be a parameter? It seems we should always have `fingerprint=True` and in my 1.5 years w/ Pants I’ve seen a couple different bugs resulting from `fingerprint=False`

option fingerprinting was introduced surprisingly late in the game, so it was basically starting from zero

there was concern about big-banging from no fingerprinting to 100% fingerprinting. but it should probably have been "include by default"
