i have something like that in https://github.com/cosmicexplorer/upc/tree/master/local/directory/src/lib.rs, which lets you upload a bunch of PathStats and get a digest in return. it's a prototype i've been working on recently that tries to virtualize every file access used by subprocesses that pants invokes, but right now it's also a more fluent API for the pants CAS filesystem API
