ftr: i was intimidated by
tokio::select!
for a while due to the size of its documentation, but having used it a few times now, i wish i had started sooner. itโ€™s nice, with decent error messages, and not-easy (afaict) to get wrong.

there are a few examples around the codebase now, and am about to use it again for something.

thank you for this note, i have been intimidated by this function and haven't even touched it
the preconditions part is probably what got me but i remember vaguely enough of an OS class to fear spurious wakeups so it makes more sense to me if i say it's for that
