10/24/2025, 5:34 AMRe the upcoming decommissioning of macos x86 hosted runners. We still have that macos 10.15 x86 machine at macstadium. I cannot upgrade it to 13, but a binary built on 10.15 should work on 13 I assume. I would like to switch to it, unless anyone objects, so that we can still release 2.29.x and 2.30.x patch releases after the x86-pocalypse.

10/24/2025, 5:41 AMAlso I note that there will be hosted runners for macos 15 x86 until August 2027, so it would not be hard to continue to support intel on that os version, if we choose to.

10/24/2025, 11:43 AMI feel like I'm crazy, but I think GH has been changing some of this information as we go along without marking dates or edits.
I captured my ticket on the same day as the blog - and the blog date has changed without edits.
So, was it ALWAYS 2027, or is that novel information? I could have sworn the actual deprecation dates were much earlier originally

10/24/2025, 11:45 AMHuon's comment suggests it should be some level of support longer, but to answer your question - while GH has x86 macos runners we can use, I would suggest we maintain our support for at least that long

10/24/2025, 8:21 PMbut we have said we will support macos 13 on x86 in 2.30 so we do need the self-hosted runner for a while longer (for that, and to support patches in 2.27/2.28/2.29)

10/24/2025, 8:37 PMIf we were to continue to support x86_64 macOS, I think switching to the v15 GitHub runner would be the smaller change.
I won't land the release notes PR in a hurry. But I still don't think it is a good use of volunteer time to support such an -- at this point -- niche arch. The bar can be like the lowest sponsorship level, or any interest at all from a human in helping, but our calls out have not gotten that.
