I thought I got Mandela Effect'd here https://github.com/astral-sh/ty - as I recall it being in the ruff repo, but they mentioned that development happens in the ruff repo - so I guess this is/was a placeholder
f
They are including ruff via a git-submodule.
So maybe this is for deployment or testing?
Seems to have commits from this week, so would seem to be active.
It's funny how the Python ecosystem is being rewritten in Rust. Might as well use Rust directly ...

Yeah, in the ruff repo I think it was called red something? https://github.com/astral-sh/ruff/pull/17820

I don't mind this - just like I'm pretty excited for mojo - I like simple syntax languages with large standard libraries. The exact opposite of rust.
f
yeah was a bit of a joke 🙂 -- The learning curve alone of Rust would eat away scarce developer time when they could just be shipping with Python.
w
> The learning curve alone of Rust I also think this is over-stated by a large margin. I think the learning curve is largely dependent on what language you came from... C/C++? Meh - it's really not that bad, it's just strict. JS/Python? Yeah, I can see Rust being a pain
f
of course, but it is a factor a team will need to consider when evaluating whether to use it.
I also think this is over-stated by a large margin.
Because hyperbole does not come across in Slack very well. "It depends" would be my standard answer.

"I also think this is over-stated by a large margin." --> "I also think this is over-stated by a monumental margin." 😏
