2.23.2 stable release https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/pull/21910 (please review) Proposal: this is last release in the 2.23.x release branch, once it goes out, we close off 2.23.x. Any thoughts or objections?

Do we make (or should we make) any promises about how long a stable release will be supported for? 2.23.x was released on 11/19/24, so 2.23.x has been stable for less than 6 months. https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/releases/tag/release_2.23.0

I think we have a vague "two versions back" schedule? I don't think we've written one down, though, e.g. https://www.pantsbuild.org/stable/docs/contributions/releases/release-strategy doesn't mention it (as far as I can see)
E.g. the doc site hard-codes the third-most-recent version as "deprecated", so 2.22 is the most recent deprecated one, with 2.23 / 2.24 unlabelled. In the past, we've generally just close branches ad hoc: when it seems like the rate of change drops/to save volunteer effort. (There's a bit of a gap between the easy "do a cherry-pick" maintainer decision and someone actually doing the (small amount of) leg work to actually get the stable patch releases out.)

I'm fine with whatever we decide in any event given maintenance of older release branches is a burden on us. Just wanted to see if we had any "maintain for N months" policy.

I'm fine with us closing the branch as proposed.

2.23.2 is out now, so I’ll close off the 2.23.x branch and milestone tomorrow (unless I hear otherwise :) )

Closed 2.23.x; thanks for everyone's contributions to that release series!
