Also, we really ought to prioritize the remaining work to get us to where the sandbox root and cache or on the same filesystem in most cases. If I ask "how long does it take to make my test sandboxes?" Pants 2.16: • Mean: 15603ms • Median: 12224ms • Std: 17739ms Pants 2.17 with "same-filesystem-as-cache" sandbox root: • Mean: 83ms • Median: 25ms • Std: 162ms 🤯

By "local", you mean hardlinked, right ... ?
b
"local" meaning same filesystem (I'll edit)
f
what's your underlying filesystem? Behavior like this could vary depending on how it implements copying
c
Sorry to bump this old thread but my searching has left me stumped. What's the remaining work? Would the final step be changing the default
local_execution_root_dir
?
w
on most systems, there should not be any followup work involved. that's because (afaict from polling), most distributions stopped mounting
/tmp
on a tmpfs, and instead mount it on the root filesystem. if that's the case for you, then there is no further configuration required.
