Hey all, I'm a SWE in Austin, TX currently working at Equilibrium Energy. We're building out a monorepo (python, go, proto, julia, docker) and are evaluating different build tools. Right now, it's between bazel and pants. Pants is looking much more appealing, but I'd like to try and build out a custom Julia backend via plugin before pulling the trigger. Any and all pointers very welcome!

Hmm, I don't know much about Julia, but I think Go may be the closest analog in terms of build idioms?
m
That makes two of us 🙃 I just found a swift backend that I should be able use an example and rig up the julia compiler / runtime as an external tool 🤞 we shall see, I'll let y'all know how it goes

Hi, I am an EM at Netflix leading the Python Platform team here. Pants is definitely something we are interested, among many things since we have a very fragmented ecosystem internally. It’s nice to be connected to the community and learn from all the great knowledge and lessons you all have experienced.

@alert-dawn-51425 take a look at https://www.pantsbuild.org/docs/adhoc-tool if you'd like to experiment a bit before committing to a plugin! If/when deciding to write a custom plugin, take a look at these tutorials on writing plugins https://www.pantsbuild.org/docs/create-a-new-goal they should help you get started, I think

@delightful-laptop-35796 this is very exciting! There's a 1h video crash course on

if you'd like to get a sense of what working with Pants is like.

hi all. Ex-AMZN (learned how to write code there), network engineer, now currently managing a team of two (myself included) for doing automation things. stumbled across pants while trying to do “more intelligent” CI/CD stuff.

I’m a software engineer at Astranis, we already use pants for the non-C++ half of our monorepo. I’m here to ask questions as I try to optimize our pants usage

I love trying to come up with new ways of optimizing Pants, so please do share 🙂

👋 I’m a software engineer at coinbase and I’m one of the folks who manages our python monorepo managed with pants

@elegant-zoo-49348 so glad you stopped by! Don't be a stranger (and if corporate permits, consider adding coinbase to the "who uses Pants" page 😉)

looks like we’re already added haha: https://www.pantsbuild.org/page/who-uses-pants
