:wave: what're the long-term goals behind the macro system? specifically, are they intended to eventually be shareable with other Pants users (like Bazel macros)?

and does that underpin sandbox-lite validation in the parsing stage like `engine.internals.parser.error_on_imports`?

Interesting. There are no current plans I'm aware of to make the shareable. But it's a good idea, and I think we could support them being part of a plugin.
