<https://github.com/pantsbuild/pex/pull/599> has been a blocker for an internal issue which i was going to follow up on and didn't. it seems mergeable -- are there blockers to performing a release with this? not trying to rush the process, just not sure how pex does releases in general

this is probably described in the repo somewhere

looking at `RELEASE.rst` i can't see any reason we can't merge the diff and do a release `1.5.3`? again, not trying to rush the process if it's not ok, but i think the PR has undergone review
