OK - TBR'd https://rbcommons.com/s/twitter/r/4370/, that broke master CI, did un RB'd follow-up and master is now green. Details are on https://rbcommons.com/s/twitter/r/4370/ and in ticket https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/issues/4035, but deploying pants that can consume auto-published native engine code is pretty close to real. I wont be able to touch this again until next Saturday 11/19.
