i also just pushed a branch building off my pr with the LLVM subsystem that uses the linker packaged in

build-linker-2.30-e527b6f8.sh

to link everything, which means we can scrub the path entirely and replace it with just the directories containing the compiler and linker. basically this means you can do

./pants run testprojects/src/python/python_distribution/fasthello_with_install_requires:main_with_no_conflict -ldebug

on this branch (https://github.com/cosmicexplorer/pants/tree/add-ld-subsystem) and it will use the packaged compiler and linker to compile the

python_dist()

if you first run those scripts and manually move them into the appropriate subdirectory of

~/.cache/pants/bin/
