Are you using the pants plugin for pycharm? (https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7412-pants-support)

it only works for Intelij Idea, as one of plugin's requirements is gradle plugin, which is not supported by pycharm

Then I’m not sure, maybe someone else can successfully use pycharm, I have never used it myself.

I figured it out. In project explorer, right click on a dir and mark it as source root can trick pycharm
