i think i was also able to clear it by removing my 
~/.cache/pants
and 
./pants.d/
i was previosuly just removing the latter

~/.cache/pants/lmdb_store/processes
should be the lazer focused workaround*

that directory stores process cache entries, which are what you hit when you are not using remote execution
