❓ Does anyone here use
linux-arm64
❓
f
not routinely, but I should have access to it in our farm if you would like me to try something
w
Nahh, more a matter of GH actions sucking with linux arm - just straight up not running for me, while testing out scie-pants CI and Release. Was curious of the impact if we just tried to release macos arm + linux x86 while sorting this out

@wide-midnight-78598
linux-arm64
which must be custom or
ubuntu-22.04-arm
?: https://github.com/pantsbuild/scie-pants/blob/3d63a951b1747208b8a363d92561eb73cfbb8067/.github/workflows/release.yml#L66-L67 The latter is GitHub hosted and what I use in pexrc to great affect with 0 hassle.
w
That's the one I'm using - this is in a fork of scie-pants. I saw this also occur in scie-pants itself a couple days ago This might just be the (frequent) github actions blips though
b
not linux-arm64
That's not github
w
Oh, damn, I didn't mean to highlight that - I meant Linux ARM64 🤦
@wide-midnight-78598 as per usual I'm still confused. You're using a custom runner apparently so should expect trouble
I think Pants did some deal with a custom org a while back
w
Hmm, I'm confused too - checking the git history. I thought we were using standard ones, or Depot runners - but no, this is something else apparently
b
I have no clue what Depot is either
Pants people be crazy
w
Depot == alternative to GH Actions - generally just faster. Pretty good service, several of my clients use them. This looks to be a change from 2024 to use AWS? ... Alright, I need to dig into this 🤦 such a side quest
Thanks for pointing that out
b
depot as in https://depot.dev/?
Does anyone here use
linux-arm64
?
We're using Gitlab CI and we run
pants
in CI jobs on linux arm64 runners all the time

Okay, thanks - was just looking to see if anyone was using it
h
For Linux ARM64 we're using a custom AMI on RunsOn, which was what we set up a couple of years ago to replace our self-hosted runner, which was provided for free back in the day by the "Works on ARM" program. This all predates GitHub having generally available Linux ARM runners.
In other words, we were not doing all this because of any issue with GitHub-hosted runners, other than them not existing yet... So switching to them now may well be possible.
And we could do that on Depot as well, if we wanted more robust runner instances.

🤷 Seems to work

I run linux-arm64 in production (Python 3.14; AWS Graviton) And develop on a Mac M4 (macos-aarch64).
