Hey yall! Im having a problem upgrading from pants 2.23, we use devbox to manage non-python package dependencies for the environment, and it puts all the binaries into
.devbox/nix/profile/default/bin
This has worked great for us, up until pants 2.24, we started getting this error
IntrinsicError: path_metadata_request error: path for PathNamespace.SYSTEM must be an absolute path. Instead, got
.devbox/nix/profile/default/bin
I believe this is because we have the binary path set in the pants.toml
[system-binaries].system_binary_paths
, when we remove the relative devbox path the error stops, but then pants no longer has those binaries available Is there any special keyword like
<PATH>
that we can use, but for
<PROJECT_ROOT>
or something? Its hard to put an absolute path here, as its different on every developers machine.

Is the relative path under the build root?
p
Yes, its adjacent to the
pants.toml
file

PR https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/pull/22024 is the fix but landed in time for 2.26.x.
and which is in alpha, 2.26.0a1 is latest
p
Oh I see, thank you! I thought it was landing in 2.25 for some reason
