Hey guys, We've been using
v1
of pantsbuild for some of our Scala projects. Those projects were not touched for years. Now I wanted to do some change and was surprised to notice that I can't use pants
1.30.4
anymore.

Was pip package for
1.30.4
remove. Maybe there is some workaround to this problem? (Migrating to v2 is not an option now cause it wil require significant dev efford)

Nothing has been removed to my knowledge https://pypi.org/project/pantsbuild.pants/1.30.4/#files

Ok, I see. I think it could be related to the fact that I'm running Mac M2 chip. When I run
pip index versions pantsbuild.pants
I get
Copy code
pantsbuild.pants (1.7.0)

That's probably cause wheels that I need have tags ->
CPython 3.8, macOS 10.11+ x86-64
while to work with M1/M2 the tag should have
ARM64
h
Ah yes, we had no ARM64 builds back then
But how did this work until now on that hardware? Or is this new hardware?
q
But how did this work until now on that hardware?
That's why I'm puzzled too. It's a new hardware (Mac M2) for me, but I'm pretty sure my colleagues had M1/M2 chips laptops at least a year ago.
I'm sorry for asking this - Do you think it's possible to add ARM64 support for v1 builds (or that would be a massive amount of work) ?
b
If this was working for some people using Apple Silicon devices, they may have been running Pants (and thus python/pip) on x86-64 via Rosetta 2, rather than natively. Re v1 support: v1 is very unsupported, and Pants is a volunteer-driven project so it is very unlikely to me that anyone will be interested in putting their limited time/energy into officially building v1 for arm64. Options to me seem like: 1. Use Rosetta 2 or other emulation to run under x86-64 2. Try to build v1 wheels for arm64 yourself, publish internally somehow, and install from that 3. Upgrade to Pants 2

Thanks for all the suggestions. Really appreciate your help
