The Python code is more or less just a port of the bash code from one of the previous iterations. There is probably some redundancy in there, which is already handled by the `Options` code, so this ticket is to go in and make sure we're not re-doing any work unnecessarily.

Also, as part of this, it would be nice to see if there are any small code speedups we can gain, as the completion takes about 200ms, which is definitely noticeable.
