We're considering adding a new lint and fix/fmt tool as a custom plugin, but, wouldn't it make sense to have a generic one where you can specify the command line for these goals? We're quite heavily invested in pants and can take the time to write that, but a lot of people might not be.

Yes we are actively thinking about the shape of something with an easier using profile. You can look at the thread. It would be valuable to get examples of fix/fmt tools that you want to use as custom plugins. You can add that in an issue comment.
