#9823 Barrier to contributors: Rust compilation's space usage Issue created by Eric-Arellano When running Pants from sources—rather than a normal prebuild wheel—Pants takes several gigabytes of storage. On my machine, it's gone up to 40 GB until I finally had to manually garbage collect. This presents a barrier to contributors, especially with most laptops using small SSDs these days. Outside of somehow reducing the size of our dependencies, the best lever is likely to implement some type of garbage collection. For now, we document how to manually garbage collect at https://pants.readme.io/docs/contributor-setup. pantsbuild/pants
