Pants

We have sphinx website built with each release. What's the state of Sphinx in Pants? I see a lot of discussion (on github, and here in the slack archives), but nothing conclusive that I can find. Is anyone building with Sphinx and Pants here?

Yeah, for the moment that's dormant due to the sheer number of other high priority things on our plate. But it's a highly requested feature, so I know folks would be very appreciative if anyone wants to start work on that issue.

I'd like to volunteer to help out, but I think I'm too new to Pants and don't understand the codebase well enough.

I did see an older PR where sphinx was added <https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/pull/15512|#15512>, and an accompanying PR where it was rolled back <https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/pull/15758|#15758>.
