#18108 2023 Pants Roadmapping Survey Issue created by stuhood In 2021 and 2022, we did Pants Roadmapping Surveys, where we asked folks to: 1. submit freeform ideas (optionally with tickets) 2. rank all of the submitted ideas The 2022 email announcing the surveys is here: https://groups.google.com/g/pants-devel/c/UFt3Os--6ps?hl=en * * * The full process involves: 1. Cloning/copying both surveys (currently hosted in pantsbuild@gmail.com's Google drive): • Round one: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd4d_3fw0N-s8te1GjZQWqRjhLFy5cCibiT91IeeXbZKegwZA/viewform • Round two: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd5HBUDNKQCxmPORcdwAOYoU9fHjrmRCKyM1R3JZvtig0Y5HQ/viewform 2. Updating date references in the first survey 3. Sending out an email / slack message announcing the surveying (last year's is linked above) that describes the surveying process, and references all the progress that we have made on the items that were collected in the previous year. • Last year's items are priority ranked in https://github.com/orgs/pantsbuild/projects/4/views/1 : many are closed! 4. Periodically bumping the round one survey in Slack, and other trusted channels. 5. After round one submissions: • Dedupe and associate the items with any open tickets, and open tickets for any brand new items. • Add all of them to a 2023 Priorities github project, like last year's • Update the round-two survey with all items. 6. Send out the round-two survey, which asks folks to rate items on a scale of 1 to 5. • OR, possibly consider asking folks to use Github issue reactions maybe...? • Either way: the scoring/prioritization is critical. 7. Periodically bump the round two survey in Slack, and other trusted channels. 8. Take the average score of items, and use them to prioritize the 2023 Priorities github project you created. pantsbuild/pants
