I’m very interested in the cool features that Pants has, like built in support for linting and fixing, and integration with version control. I need C++ support before I’m ready to jump in with both feet, but I am following the progress on this front and look forward to seeing it all land

Hi - my company already uses Pants pretty extensively (also we're listed on the who uses pants page). I mainly came here to make sure not to miss notifications of new releases, since we recently upgraded from 2.6.1 to 2.14.0 (I know I know...) which was relatively painful, and I'd like it to be less painful in future! (It was all our own fault for not upgrading for 14 months...)

👋 Hello, team! I am a software engineer in the aviation industry. Been working with monorepo, python and cloud at my job for some time now. So excited to stumble across pants while searching for a build tool. My most loved feature is the inference capability. It just works automagically 😄 (is there a docs on how this works). I'm really looking forward to learning more. I plan on using it for my side project soon(Maybe for my job too). So far I have been able to implement 2 simple fastapi APIs, with test and linting features using the backend plugins. The documentation was pretty straightforward. I noticed pants don't have k8/docker-compose or knative backend. This is the only docs i haven't found.

Thanks @busy-vase-39202 I'm working as a bioinformatician / research software engineer at the University of Melbourne's Centre for Cancer Research in Australia. I'm looking into pants / PyOxidizer as a way that I can still use python and easily deploy tools to colleagues / collaborators without needing to worry about niche compatibility errors.

Hey, Carl Turpie, I lead up the engineering team at a small startup called FLAIR (https://flairimpact.com/) We have a Python (using FastAPI and Typer) and Angular code base and I’ve been spending the last week or so migrating over to pants for our monorepo, primarily for the test caching and parallelisation but also to simplify the monorepo structure and bring in some best practices (e.g. making it easier to modularise our code).

Hello! Im working with a brilliant team of neuroscientists, machine learning experts and engineers to decode optimal brain states in a company called Optios. I’m tasked with improving and simplifying our CI/CD build automation so that we can easily snapshot our entire code base, release effortlessly and connect numerous ML experiments back to their versioned source code for analysis and tuning. I had made measurable progress coupling together custom scripts with GitHub actions when I stumbled upon Pants. We’re clearly not the first org to approach a monorepo this way! Nice to meet y’all. We currently use a python monorepo for our ML model pipelines and are slowly migrating our site services to one as well. I joined here after finding Pants to work well with our python monorepos. I'm doing a bit of consulting on a greenfield project which may involve some less-experienced programmers, and I'm trying to put automation tools in place to prevent the usual problems. The basic testing, checking, formatting, etc. provided by Pants is very attractive. I've been using Python since the mid-90s but since it didn't have a compile step I never got around to looking at any build systems until now. I'm also starting work on a book, and was frustrated by the standard directory structure where importing a module required that module to be below the importer in the directory structure. This made it hard to have each chapter's examples in its own directory and at the same time provide common modules throughout the book. The fact that Pants solves that problem for me -- and also automatically fetches all dependencies -- will make the end users experience with the example repository much smoother, and that's a big win. I joined the Slack because I'm running into a few oddities while coming up with instructions for setting up and using the two repos, so I'll be asking some (possibly pretty basic) questions.

Hi, I am a software engineer leading a team at the University of Washington housed in the Research IT subgroup of the IT Services of UW Medicine. We provide technical support the NIH funded National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center at UW. NACC is moving from a legacy system to one based on Flywheel.io, which allows UI and compute extensions. We are starting to build extensions in python in a monorepo, and I’m hoping to use pants for this.

I've put a lot of foundational tooling together for DevOps, such as SAML.to, eph.dev, and tfstate.dev my new project is making a monorepo that has a Node+Typescript+Lambda (or optionally a Python+Flask) backend and a React or Angular frontend packed into one project, pants seemed like an option to do the lift to run/deploy a monorepo however i hit a wall, the Javascript support seems beta/unsupported, (Typescript seems non-existent?)... if anyone has any advice, i'm all ears! 🙏

Hello - I'm Shalabh and I work at Elementl on Dagster Cloud. We have just started using PEX to deploy user code for Dagster Cloud Serverless. We used to deploy Docker images but PEX gives us a reliable way to build and ship the same code much faster. I've been fairly impressed with PEX in my initial exploration. Once we get real user usage it will be interesting to see how it holds up.

My hope is a monorepo managed by something like Pants could help accelerate our development process by stream lining certain quality/build/management related tasks. I'm pretty sold on using pants to manage CI and it deps management functionality seems solid, but I'm struggling to get it working as a build tool for containers. I have a question in #general. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks @happy-kitchen-89482. I'm considering it for my small DataOps team. Our stack is all Azure currently. On top of the typical lint/format/test, my hope is to use it to manage databricks deployments using dbx, building docs using jupyter book, and deploying azure function apps. I know those integrations don't exist yet, so if you know of any plugins that have done it, or just tips for building out plugins in addition to what's in the docs, it would be greatly appreciated! One of the main things I want to figure out with the plugins is what fits best in Pants, and what fits best in a script/cicd. For example, if I have a long-running pipeline integration test the process might be as follows: Deploy a subset of test pipelines, launch those pipelines concurrently, monitor the status and wait for them all to complete, if all pipelines pass, deploy the production pipelines, restart production pipelines. I can do those things currently using dbx/databricks cli with a bit of scripting in Python that is managed in an Azure Devops pipeline. I would be curious to know whether and where Pants could fit into a process like that and how to approach creating a plugin if it would fit.
