Hej 👋 I'll run a short self introduction here as well. I'm a Swede 🇸🇪 just relocated to Canada 🇨🇦 where I will be joining @clean-city-64472’s team at iManage in Toronto. Previously I worked on the CI/CD pipeline and related tooling at Svenska Spel and introducing Pants there led me to contributing back to the Pants community also earning me a spot as maintainer. My contributions are a bunch of smaller enhancements as well as the majority of the Docker backend for Pants build. (known as kaos on Github) It is great to see this awesome community thrive, being one of the most welcoming and friendly spaces I've been a part of. That is something for everyone here to take credit for as we're all in this together. Thank you 🙏

Hello! I'm one of the maintainers and also wanted to introduce myself (they/them pronouns). I first contributed to Pants 4 years ago as a summer intern, leading its Python 3 migration. I fell in love with open source and got to keep working on Pants at Twitter and now Toolchain 😄 In between graduating, I was a middle school computer science teacher for a few months teaching intro Python. And I was also a volunteer crisis counselor for 2 years for LGBTQ youth 🏳️‍🌈 So I particularly enjoy teaching liking writing docs, and the human side of software engineering

Hi, I'm a software engineer at Outrider, working on perception stack for autonomous truck navigation. I'm in the process of setting up a new repo for our team, so looking into build system. I love bazel, but its supports for python is still has too much friction, so I found pants, and I'm evaluating it. Will have lots more questions. Thanks!

Hi community, I am an engineer at mewt, a fintech startup which is trying to make banking a no brainer and hassles-free for small and medium businesses. I lead the backend and the devops. We have a microservice arch with each microservice sitting in it's own repo and soon enough I started to feel the issues with distributed repos that even a small change took significant time to implement across the board. What led me to pants was my exploration of monorepo and then the talk by @happy-kitchen-89482 helped me to decide that mono repo indeed has a higher value that distributed repos. Since our backend is in django so I shortlisted bazel and pants to try out. I stated off with bazel cuz it seemed to be more popular and robust as per reviews, but after trying that out for over a week I could not setup that up for my django project and I tried a little more but when I kind of reached a dead end I decided to gave up on bazel. I then tried out pants and could get it to work today 🤗, and I am quite happy about it. Though the journey is still quite long for full migration but since the learning curve doesn't seem to be too steep, so I am quite positive.

Hi all 👋 I’m the newest Contributor on the Pants team, based in the suburbs of Boston in the USA. In a past life I was a back-end / data engineer working on bioinformatics pipelines, but in recent years I’ve been shifting into DevOps / infra-eng roles. I currently work at Color Health on the TIDE (Tooling, Infrastructure, and Dev Efficiency) team, where I’ve been leading the charge to adopt Pants in the company’s Django monorepo. Feel free to ping me with questions - I still feel like a relative noob when it comes to Pants, but I’m always happy to help with debugging & brainstorming

Hi all - like @incalculable-hydrogen-44003 I also work at a sewer infrastructure startup, but as a backend engineer. We're actively working on transferring all of our Python services into a Pants monorepo. I like Pants for its first-class support of Python, and I think it'll go a long way to help our team gain some visibility on our backend code. Excited to continue using it!

Hey! I work at a payment processor. I'm taking a quick look into build tools that hopefully 1. support a variety of languages (ideally java/rust/python/c++/js) 2. are easy to learn/use and extend (though hopefully we don't need to do much extension) 3. integrate with package managers for 3rd party packages 4. do a decent job of caching so we don't need to "build the universe" any time something changes

Hey folks! I’ve been a maintainer for Pants for a few years (starting at Twitter), and have worked on various bits of the codebase. I helped drive the introduction of Rust to Pants, and helped make some of the decisions around the v2 engine which became Pants 2. I now work at Toolchain Labs, where we have a remote caching product, and do commercial support and custom development. Always great to see everyone here! Thanks for introducing yourselves.

Hello folks! Recently joined up at a shop with a mono-repo that pushes out 15+ docker images to AWS EBS! Currently all the code sharing is via copying code into a docker containers and running a complicated docker-compose. Going to see if pants can help with the messy code sharing and packaging! Hi everyone! We switched over to a monorepo managed by pants a couple of months ago for our AI-related apps deployment. It’s been much easier to keep track to all the changes in all library/utilities projects 🙂 We also streamlined the whole deployment process so that when a commit is pushed to main, we package and publish all containers that rely on something that’s changed. Amazing tool, thank you 😄

Hello! I’m currently evaluating Pants as a replacement to an unholy mess of GNU Make, Python, and shell that makes up our current build system. Adding to the joy is that it’s a build system for OS images and so I’m hip-deep in learning how the Pants plugin system works.

Hey y'all! Currently investigating benefits of monorepo in civic tech space: we do smaller but a lot of data/API-driven web apps. No prior experience with monorepos (or luxury of a dedicated team to manage them) and thus Pants feels like a good first step for the managing back-end related code. ❤️ the recent improvements around Python+Docker deployments. 🚀
