Is the

cmd

invoking zinc directly, or through nailgun? If the latter then I think you’d need to figure out how to pass args to nailgun in a file, rather than to zinc

I don’t know what all the options you’re passing it are. You can jar up things if it’s the classpath that’s too big

You can make a jar consisting of only a manifest file that has the classpath

so I added the return code from the self.runjava in zinc_compile.py to the TaskError exception there, exit code is 1

I modified the zinc compile to add println’s throughout its Main, then I switch pants to use that zinc and I now get failures to compile with this error showing up in pants output:

TruncatedHeaderError(u"Failed to read nailgun chunk header (TruncatedRead(u'Expected 5 bytes before socket shutdown, instead received 0',)).”,

and I forced using a synthetic jar with zinc by overriding runjava’s impl to set that option to True unconditionally

Running out of a nailgun is supposed to bypass the popen character limitation issue
