Hmm, where does the virtual env based pants wrapper that is linked from the website come from? I.e, where is the source commited for <https://pantsbuild.github.io/setup/pants> ?

I did grep for some contents of it in pants and didn't find it.

We have no RBCommons for that repo, so just plain old pull requests

This is somewhat of a lazy question: But what is the process to actually build a pex out of the pants source repository? build-support/bin/ci.sh builds tarballs, but I can't find a pex. It's not obvious to me that release.sh does that either.

That is actually a version with no contrib code in it.

I think I have confused you there - the 'setup' doc says "specify the plugins with version ==0.0.42", I presume I could remove the pin there?

OK, sorry, you mean in the setup script.  I think you do want to pin it, but the most recent release is 0.0.45.  I’ll be releasing 0.0.46 today.

yes, thinking about it I probably do want to version everything

(I would pin it so that developers are all getting the same version of pants and you won’t be frustrated with unreproducible errors every Friday after an upgrade.)
