    @witty-crayon-22786 re ‘quiet’ another option is to enforce when it is not set from hardcoded value, i.e. passing via env var or command line will be respected. (need to be super clear on the help message tho)

    is from hardcoded value, then go with the default aka status quo, otherwise enforce it. hope that’s clear?

    hehe thanks. it’s possible node is trying to compile some ssl stuff and errors out and has similar issue. to be clear my error is from bootstrapping pants: 
    ./pants goals
