this is one reason why we recommend building pexes for deployment (http://www.pantsbuild.org/install.html#pex-based-installation)... in the past members of the community have had reservations about distributing pre-built pants pexes, but it's probably time to revisit that.

i see this most of the time when people are trying to run/test/build python targets locally and they're missing native libraries or headers, or haven't done whatever voodoo brew needs for whatever OS X version they're running

its too bad travis doesn’t optimize folding by actually omitting the logs between the folds until the fold is clicked - then chunk is fetched etc. that’d make it super fast.

thanks! and yeah, basically — went with a python script that outputs

./pants list ::

and then checks if X is in that output ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
