nothing in the tests have changed, just code in the src. but pants should see from the changed “src” files they are depended on in the tests?

actually I get an python unicode error when i run that. but i think i found my problem

the src i changed did not have any test that depended on it. it has imports from libs that changed, and uses them, but no tests are dependent on that src. my mistake, at least i understand the process way better now 🙂 thank you @fast-megabyte-33579 and @rough-sundown-61224 for your assistance.

I spent an afternoon trying to refactor ours awhile ago (on 1.0.0) but ended up with no solution I was happy with.

also I think that the report above from @broad-london-44229 is accurate - I was able to repro that problem on 1.0.0 but have not yet tried again on 1.2.1+

i have been able to find a workaround, i am setting [ivy]bootstrap_ivy_settings to point to a separate ivysettings_bootstrap.xml which points to a public maven central repo

so that once ivy bootstraps itself off the public repo using the default JVM flags, everything afterwards uses the SSL flags and i can use my private repo

we get scala compiler errors like that from time to time, just re-running the pants command always fixes it

I think I've seen these happen locally, but they certainly happen on Jenkins during like 0.5% of our builds

i would first check if the target indeed misses that dependency
