When we do run a pants target for the first time it takes a lot of time for pants to download the requirements and pants looks hung. Is there way to make understand why it takes such a long time? Adding -ldebug shows it's "Dumping requirement" for a target but nothing beyond that.

We are trying to import a giant package with a lot of dependencies but it is unclear why it is downloading all the packages several times.

pex makes a lot of network roundtrips. would want to add debug info there

@witty-crayon-22786 which option would that be? We are already doing -ldebug. this is run.py target

not built in... would be a patch to pex.

better yet, could profile the code and see what it is doing

maybe

PANTS_PROFILE=blah.prof ./pants test $target

and then use snakeviz, for example
