    deprecation in there. Means merging https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/pull/8898 then the followup deprecation PR (tidying it up now)

    what we DMed about a few weeks ago. Site says a deprecation cycle lasts two full releases, so 1.24.0.dev1 -> 1.26.0.dev1 https://www.pantsbuild.org/deprecation_policy.html

    but, to be clear: convention wise, i don't think anyone currently targets for the later dev releases in a cycle: ie "dev3/dev4"

    formalizing whether it should be 0, 1, or 2 would be good. and i would be fine pushing to 0 or 1 probably

    @hundreds-father-404 Are you happy with https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/issues/8989 (which I just linked to from comments in https://github.com/pantsbuild/pants/pull/8982) so I can merge the release?
